Super Oxide Dismutase SOD
Is an anti oxidant enzyme our body produces to break down Super Oxide that is produced by activity to get energy, but needs to be balanced with SOD for recovery.
SOD is also a very powerful antioxidant against toxins that are generally free radicals or electron stealers, while antioxidants are electron donors. (“Electron stealers” is from Dr Jerry Tenant.)
Oxidation is one form of electron stealing involving oxygen, whereas the term free radical refers to electron stealers like mercury Hg++ where the + signifies missing electrons / a proton.
As antioxidants or free radical quenchers donate electrons to the free radical it is neutralized as an electron stealer or to create a bond to another molecule to be “chelated” out or recycled as a useful nutrient.
Hardly anyone explains this simply. Chemistry is odd, and some chemists I have met are even odder, but I digress.
Raising antioxidant levels and electrons is a deep level of intervention to boost all health results. Electrons are “for” everything.
As we age SOD product declines and, therefore, it is harder to recover from stress and working out so it requires more days of rest or less strenuous activity.
Antioxidant are drained through toxic exposures as well that are increasing especially through air pollution.
I took a known source of SOD. At first nothing happened because it’s not a stimulant. I needed a nap. I woke up to surging testosterone and had good drive the rest of the day.
Is SOD for testosterone? No. It has nothing to do with it directly. Hormones increase with overall systems strength the fundamental level of nutrients and how those nutrient contribute to the electron transport chain of mitochondria and the electrons that pull circulation through vessels and capillaries more than the heart pumps it has a I have explained many time so look it up.
What’s so special about SOD?
Not all antioxidants reach through the membranes of mitochondria within cells: SOD, chlorophyll and glutathione, can.
Thus they are able to protect and help our power at its source, whereas other antioxidants help detoxify hopefully before reaching the mitochondria.
I got my SOD from plant sources, which I will not get into at this time.
Using plants to raising testosterone is not how I usually go about it and that was not my intention. The most direct way of boosting the lower hormones of adrenals (on top of the kidneys) and reproductive hormones is through cholesterol as these are steroidal hormones, root word sterol.
