Topicals or Soaks
You probably need all 3 sources of magnesium if you have chronic health problems:
Foods, supplements and topicals or soaks.
With chronic health problems magnesium depletion in the body (and the soil) means we have to make more of an effort beyond traditional diets. Modern environments are toxic and that requires more nutrients to detoxify and stay energized at the same time.
The science shows magnesium is crucial for thousands of chemical reactions in the body.
I’m not going to repeat anything that is already known through science.
I speak from my own experience of getting through chronic fatigue and coaching others with difficult conditions. This is the art of dealing with the unknown in terms of science through careful observation and interpretation of results and root causes through systems theory.
I also use energetic testing to get specific and quantify protocols, but that only asks yes or no questions, so it still depends on the scientific framework of knowing what to ask and observing acutely. Observation of this sort is how people survived for thousands of years before science.
It appears that since magnesium has so many roles in the body you need different forms and delivery methods in combination with different cofactor nutrients like other minerals, especially potassium and sodium, to utilize magnesium.
Most magnesium supplements just don’t work very well.
Or people notice an improvement but don’t know what % of deficiency remains.
They see any sign of success as complete success, so any remaining problems get interpreted as another issue, when actually more magnesium and closely related nutrients are necessary.
People who take magnesium for constipation are not absorbing much magnesium: it works for that purpose because it is irritating the gut, not being absorbed.
And you can’t rely on supplements alone.
Absorbing magnesium through the skin can be very effective and often necessary.
Each form has some different advantages:
There is magnesium chloride, magnesium sulfate, dead sea salts, and being in the ocean with all its minerals.
Sprays, foot soaks, baths, oceans, and hot springs are delivery methods.
Diet is still important because there are so many forms of magnesium and especially cofactors necessary.
Sea plants and animals are crucial and in the right forms
Some land plants are worth focusing on, too.
By focusing on magnesium sources in food I find I also get many other nutrients. Just because you can’t measure every nutrient like you can on a bottles does not mean you are not getting it. Food is equal or better. Supplements are just that, a supplement added to diet, but sometimes people reverse the importance.
By focusing on all 3 forms of magnesium symptoms are more likely to improve: energy, sleep, pain, just about anything. Then other nutrients work better, too, since magnesium is a cofactor for other nutrients, A deficiency in magnesium can hold back your entire system.
When you add another source of magnesium you may feel much more results and then think it is better than the first source and then think you can quit the first source. But these may be adding-up and covering different areas of the body to nourish so both are necessary..
You may also think that when you improve you can cut back, but it is more the opposite: as you improve energy expenditure increases and you may need to increase nutritional inputs of any kind. You could develop a deficiency in something that was never a problem before because you burn more energy, not just in daily activity but to detoxify and repair. This is why people often palteau or backslide. Then they often jump to conclusions like thinking that they had the diagnosis wrong that it is not nutrition but an infection, hormone or emotion, etc., guessing wildly from symptoms and suggestions on social media but no method. They lose focus because they don’t know how to fine-tune a system and progress in steps based on an understanding of systems theory.
I can’t give any details of supplement brands, foods or personal advice in social media comments to people I don’t know a thing about.
I can give you a complete health solution with systematic nutrition based on individual needs, and support you through the details of implementation. It begins with a free assessment of root causes to formulate a strategy that can work.
