The incredible benefits of eating seafood should be weighed against toxic exposures to the fish in the ocean.
Just because fish are exposed does not mean they have accumulated a body burden of what they are exposed to and cannot detoxify it.
You are in the same position: in a toxic environment but using nutrition to detoxify and overcompensate for the exposure. Fish has unique nutrients to consider in the cost benefit ratio.
How do you know if your seafood is toxic?
Most important, you should be able to FEEL the effects of whatever you eat.
Most people don’t try to feel it and rely exclusively on general science and theories.
I personally am very sensitive and can feel whether something makes me feel better or tired right away. I am especially sensitive to mercury that was a big part of why I had chronic fatigue.
In fact, I can feel the energy of food in my left hand when I shop, or even from pictures over the internet. Be like an animal and let your instincts work. Don’t be a know-it-all scientist because those generalizations cannot capture all the details.
Are the fish sick?
In some regions fish are showing up with tumors so that is obvious.
Other fish like swordfish, a large species said to accumulate mercury, appear to be healthy. It is well known that selenium in the ocean neutralizes mercury in the fish with its antioxidant properties.
I thrived in my recovery by eating swordfish, which sells more affordably in some stores than other fish. BUT, it must be eaten raw for the chemistry of the flesh to maintain those antioxidant properties and utilize all the other nutrients.
I have not found I tolerate raw tuna as well and I am guessing it’s because it is so lean. I believe one of the sources of my mercury growing up was eating cooked canned tuna. This form of mercury, methylmercury shows up in the hair tests, as opposed to inorganic in the blood, according to Dr Christopher Shade of Quicksilver Scientific. (Dental amalgams are probably a bigger source of mercury overall and that’s inorganic mercury.)
As far as fish and parasites, I got parasites from a third world country before I ever ate raw fish, and only started recovering after eating raw fish. Beyond that I have nothing more to say about that complex topic here.
Radiation from the Fukushima disaster terrifies me, but I still find Alaskan salmon, for example, tolerable.
Keep in mind that the fish are in an ocean full of nutrients, fully grounded, not near man made electromagnetic radiation, and getting some sun through the water. All these factors help maintain electron levels to neutralized electron stealing toxins. When the fish leave their environment we could expect the chemistry and physics of their flesh to change. We need to try to create those same living conditions for ourselves to fight all exposures: sun, grounding, RMR reduction, protection against artificial light, and full nutrient defenses.
I also detoxify mercury and my body burden constantly with foods and supplements in my own customized protocols to protect myself from whatever comes in the food so that I can receive those benefits.
Fish and other sea foods have unique benefits like fish oil, vitamins A and D, more minerals, an easier to digest meat and are more relaxing. I just wrote about that.
Try to experiment for yourself with all the variables and feel the result.
Experimentation is based on measuring results, even if only subjectively: we cannot turn each meal into double blind experiment measured with lab tests.
We are hunters and gathers on the run conducting electronic warfare with our environment that tries to steal our electrons.
Try to feel the energy of food ahead of time, in the store or when choosing for a meal. I cannot teach it.
