A Case of Arsenic Poisoning
A client recently had a breakthrough by being able to tolerate the mineral sulfur again, which is in foods like dairy, eggs, chicken, onions, garlic, broccoli, cabbage, and other vegetables. This person has arsenic poisoning that has left him disabled and house bound. Being able to eat foods with sulfur is necessary to begin steady detoxification and return of his health.
When sulfur cannot be used it is an irritant that requires energy to eliminate, is a simplified way to explain it. It is not caused by genetics even if it shows up on lab tests as genetic mutations (CBS upregulation), it is driven by the environment (epigenetics). Damage done to the body and genetics can be repaired.
When Molybdenum Doesn’t Work
A common antidote to sulfur intolerance is the mineral molybdenum (molyb) because it is a cofactor that enables sulfur to be absorbed and used in the body. A deficiency of molyb can be part of the root cause of sulfur intolerance. The problem is that this individual could not tolerate molyb supplements (or possibly the molyby itself) because supplements are often not easily assimilated like food that is more natural with its own cofactors. Beyond taking a molyb supplement there is no commonly known treatment for sulfur intolerance.
Give the Body All the Nutrients It Needs to Heal Itself
I address difficult problems in complex cases of chronic fatigue and illness through the primary principle of Primal Rejuvenation: Give the body all the nutrients it needs so it can heal itself. I tested energetically for all nutritional deficiencies--minerals, vitamins, fats, etc-- and a wide variety of super remedies including digestive aids and immune boosters that were a huge help. Eventually he was able to tolerate some sulfur foods a little. Then I added a high source of molyb, peas, that also has sulfur, so he was halfway there, and then he was a able to ingest high levels of sulfur in his diet.
Sulfur and Glutathione For Detox in Raw Dairy & Eggs
This is a breakthrough that he needed to set himself up for steady progress, not that it would cure him of fatigue immediately. Being able to drink a lot of raw milk and eggs has been enjoyable and will ensure steady detoxification and healing in the long run. Raw dairy and eggs are two the most complete food sources with high levels of sulfur, glutathione forming amino acids, and protective fats with the healthy nutrient cholesterol to build hormones, the brain, cell membranes and repair damage from toxins in form of free radical damage. With these more complete foods he can more thoroughly address nutrient deficiencies and add the higher than normal level of nutrients needed to detoxify using the body’s natural detox systems like glutathione, an amino acid that is the primary antioxidant in the body.
Systemic Approach
It took a long time to get to this point by working on everything else indirectly instead of being able to directly address the sulfur intolerance, which was a root cause of him not being able to detoxify his exposure to arsenic in well water. He needs a complex systemic solution rather than a narrow focus and looking for one-shot answers, such as in the current obsession with hormones like thyroid and adrenals that does not address the diagnosis of arsenic poisoning.
A system or chain is only as strong as its weakest link. If you are trying to pull a car out of a ditch with a chain that is broken in 9 places, you only see results when the 9th link is fixed. It may then be tempting to conclude that only fixing the 9th link mattered. This is why things take a long time, especially if there are 100 weak points, as may occur with the complex breakdown of bodily functioning as a few bottlenecks starve the flow of nutrients to the whole system.
Assessing complex systems like the human body has to be done not only with direct observation but with complex inferences using useful frameworks, including a list of essential nutrients. Missing nutrients area root causes, toxins are another, stress and rest matter, too.
Root Causes Are Key
Since the body is infinitely complex it is important to know where to focus. I focus on root causes. Root causes are of 3 kinds:
1. Something missing: nutrients, or developmental processes beginning with the tongue shaping the palate and cranium. .
2. Something invading: toxins, infection, accidents, trauma..
3. The brains responses to stress, which includes emotional and physical causes.
I have not seen this discussed anywhere so I created my own definition and model of the root causes of chronic fatigue and disease in general.
Focusing on the relatively few root causes gives one leverage over the many symptoms of fatigue, insomnia, pain, anxiety, weak digestion, food allergies, hormones, etc. Then one can balance being systematic and simple. Solutions must also be sensitive to individual needs, that is fully customized.
I use the method of energetic testing dowsing with a pendulum to get yes or no answers. While that is not scientific, it depends entirely on the quality of questions asked, which for me is totally as scientific process, using the framework of root cause analysis and systems theories.
What most people think of as science is lab tests, but this is a superficial understanding of science. Science depends on theory to interpret data. Most theory in applied science is with the mentality of narrowly focused specialists, like in medicine or academia. Specialization is one way to deal with complexity, because you can’t do everything in depth, but there is a role for integrators who know how to bring things together for more comprehensive and complete solutions for clients. That is my role as a health coach.
New Science & Paradigm Blinders
I got my Ph.D. in sociology studying the application of science and statistics to real world problems with clear performance results to determine what is working. These are new kinds of science and statistics that differ from most academic and medical thinking. It is a different way of seeing the world that I believe we desperately need. I am applying this to personal health in ways that have not been done. I have something that few people are looking for so they do not see it.
We all generally are not looking for new way of seeing the world. We want to find something concrete and easy to do according to existing expectations, biases, and wishful thinking, or the ONE key thing that probably doesn’t exist. We cannot see what we cannot see. But when the same old things aren’t working, then it’s time to hear again Einstein admonishing us to consider that in order to get a different result we need a different way of thinking.
This is not just an article about sulfur. This is about giving the body all the nutrients it needs to heal itself because all the nutrients work together. Read more about how I test for a systematic individualized diet: Eat to Energize
