Choline is a major methyl donor:
Donates to SAM.

Choline helps form the methyl donor TMG/Betaine:
"Betaine is a source of up to 60% of the methyl (CH3) groups required for the methylation of homoscysteine.”
“Yet, despite its relevance, the relationship of betaine and choline to homocysteine metabolism has been only lightly investigated in humans, essentially because the choline content of foods could not be accurately measured until recently.”

So while folate problems are getting more attention, betaine and choline may be more important.
While betaine may be a more direct way to get this methyl donor especially if there is problem converting choline to betaine, choline has many more functions in the body, and is a metyl donor by itself.

Egg yolks and plant lecithins are two of the richest sources of choline.
Most reviews of choline products seemed to be for brain nootropics to create acetylcholine.
Methyl donors are important for many functions, and to keep up in balance while boosting the NAD pathway (vitamin B3 fed) that most directly contributes to mitochondrial energy. NAD metabolism has a lowering effect on methylation so it needs to stay balanced, otherwise people get symptoms like depression.
