Sun Intolerance
Not tolerating sunlight can be due to lacking nutritional cofactors to benefit from it.
Intolerance can also have to do with the time of day type of rays: more UV in the middle of the day and more far infrared earlier and later.
It’s not just that the noon sun is too strong, but that UV seems to depend more on infrared to absorb it comfortably. The reverse is not true: I can use a far infrared sauna or lamp with no UV with no tolerance problems and receive the same benefits.
UV is trickier. UV provides vitamin D which requires cholesterol and sulfur to make. I never burned after keeping sulfur high. I also need to keep molybdenum up to utilize sulfur, otherwise I will notice the sun not feeling as good.
Sulfur and molybdenum also depend on other more basic cofactors for absorbing everything: sodium, potassium and magnesium, which are almost always off in people with health challenges. Toxicity requires more sulfur and molybdenum and all nutrients to detoxify and try to keep up with basic energy production. Each individual is unique and complex, which is why I don’t give personal advice to people I don’t know in Facebook comments about how to increase sulfur, food or product recommendations, etc.
I notice how I feel in the sun, weather it feels good and relaxing or feels more stingy or just hot and not beneficial. That’s how I begin to tune into what I need. Then I can think about the science behind it.
I don’t believe that we only need light gurus and can “eat shit off a shingle” as if only physics and sun matters. Stefanie Senoff writes about the chemistry of nutrition for sun absorption, and explains sun’s purpose.
Sun is not just a supplement that can be replaced by a supplement of vitamin D.
Sun is for total energy as photons are converted to electrons for total energy needs, starting with electrifying the water of your body in the blood to improve circulation to get nutrients into capillaries, including oxygen to the brain. Sun drives energy production for distribution of all nutrients. Thomas Cowan explains the physics of circulation as well.
