Separate the 6 Objectives of Working Out
to Stop Over-Training
- Performance
- Stress relief
- Circulation for healing
- Time outdoors in sun and grounding
- Alignment
- Weight loss
These 6 objectives cannot be achieved all at once by common workout methods because you will train too often and then over-train.
The result will be little progress and possibly more injuries and stress.
These objectives should be matched with different methods, some of which can be used on more rest days.
Performance
Strength, endurance, etc. are objective of working out hard, but requires more rest than you think.
You must be able to measure progress to determine the number of days off between workouts.
No progress usually means not enough rest (assuming you are trying to increase gradually the work out.)
You must be able to feel when you have both recovered plus grown in performance before working out again.
Most people can’t understand and won’t do it because they are addicted to working out due to other objectives.
Their brains go in confused obsessive loops because they can’t separate all the objectives and they just rationalize or stop thinking and go work out.
Stress Relief
There are other ways to relieve stress and relax besides going to the gym, running, etc.
Walking, stretching and non strength based physical therapy moves.
Separate emotional from physical needs and stop self medicating and avoiding conflict in other areas of life.
Circulation
Movement of many kinds and improve circulation and reduce pain in joints by speeding healing. Lifting weights, cardio machines, or running are not the only ways.
Sun and Grounding
Sometimes just sun bathing or walking barefoot is best to build strength.
Working out outdoors also adds energy for workouts and avoids indoor blue light and electronic pollution.
Alignment
Better posture by aligning the spine and cranium and whole body movement should be a higher priority.
Alignment helps relaxation and efficiency to prevent injuries and increase strength.
Even passive positions lying down provide deep relaxation on rest days.
Just learning to walk properly aligns by changing muscle balance.
Workouts can also focus on the hip muscles in a way that helps alignment, and that can easily be done outside the gym.
I have my own personal system to move to align, for circulation and relaxation, this that is not possible to learn in writing or videos.
Weight Loss
Weight loss is mainly achieved through diet, which should be customized for each individual.
Over-training can actually lead to weight gain as stress hormones add fat without muscle.
Stress hormones replace growth hormone.
