S Curve Posture:
3 Levels of Treatment
S CURVE POSTURE IS:
Hips are too far forward
Chest is sunken
Head is too forward
Hips are too far forward
Chest is sunken
Head is too forward
This is the typical postural misalignment from toes to teeth and tongue that we see commonly today.
S is for System.
Your body is trying to spell it out for you: your whole system is misaligned, not just where the pain shows up, but everything is inefficient and you don’t know what you are missing.
Isn’t body language wonderful?
S Curve Posture can create pain just about anywhere like the hips, back, shoulders, neck, and headaches.
3 Levels of Intervention:
All levels of intervention are helpful: from where it hurts to straightening your entire S curve.
But people generally go directly to pain point and not beyond because they don’t have a systems framework.
I will unravel it from pain point to system in a widening circle of causation to root causes in the whole system.
I. Where The Pain Is
II. Proximate Intervention: Near the PainChiropractors poke the bones near the pain that are pinching nerves.
But they don’t often correct muscle imbalances pulling bones out of place.
Physical Therapists often like to strengthen muscles on the opposite side of an imbalance.
Like slouching in a chair that causes neck or shoulder pain where the trapeizus muscles are tired.
Their solution can be to work out to strengthen muscles to pull harder against the slouch.
This often backfire because muscles are tired and often malnourished, so a pain point m intervention or general nutrition can work better.
III. Systems Approach: from Tongue to Toes
A systems approach to should pain looks at causes emanating more distantly from below and above.
Hips
A collapsing chest with forward shoulders is caused from below from the hip angle that is distorted by chairs.
Hip angle should be forward as would be achieved by using a wedge on a chair.
But it’s more complicated then that, because sitting shortens the psoas and related muscles that attach from each lumbar vertrabae to the inside of the femur or thigh bone. This pulls the hips forward all the time when walking and standing.
Walking and standing properly is necessary to realign the hips to stack the spine bones up to the neck for good posture. You must learn normal healthy movement to align and cannot depend on body workers for partial interventions that are not teaching systemic strategies like moving properly in everyday life.
In addition, sitting misaligns the sacrum which can also benefit from interventions to reposition and support it.
Head
From above, collapsing posture can be caused by a narrow dental palate / maxilla, that leads to a narrow airway that requires forward head posture to breath. If you try to move your head back to your ears are over your shoulders, or against a wall you are standing against, and you have trouble talk in that position, that suggests an airway constraint is present.
Crowed teeth are caused by underdeveloped palates. Orthodontists that straighten teeth by force and pulling teeth to stop crowding rather than expand palates are destructive idiots. That jams the sutures between the cranial bones, can misalign the lower jaw creating TMJ pain, etc.
Expanding the palate helps not just the airway but the entire cranium but opening sutures and subtle cranial movement and circulation of the cerebral spinal fluid to relax and think better. Misaligment stresses the nervous system. This is like what chiropractors explain as a subluxation: bones pinching nerves. Imagine your entire cranium pinching your brain. Once you start to correct this you relax immediately and become aware of a problem you did not know exists.
Even do it yourself techniques can open cranial sutures but permanent palate expansion is aided greatly by orthodontics.
Narrow palates and airways are caused by developmental failure of the tongue that does not learn to suck, swallow and rest against the palate to apply pressure to expand it. Breast feeding encourages this, but some people learn proper tongue movement without breast feeding or have problems with breast feeding due to other factors like malnutrition and sinus congestion leading to mouth breathing I cannot say how long to breast feed, just much longer than you think probably. Suck on your tongue now (press up on your palate) to see what you feel, but I will not explain further how to do this in text comments. You might not feel anything because too many things need to be done to make a difference, this is why I don’t often give tips, but this is where your tongue should be always.
Nutrition
People with nutritional deficiencies will not heal and may get more stressed by some therapies. Sometimes pain goes away immediately with more protein or minerals.
The physics of nutrition includes sunlight, far infrared lamps and saunas, and cold baths to speed all metabolic processes.
If people have complex health problems, a very systematic nutritional plan will be needed.
Realignment is like working out in which muscles are used in new ways, so more energy is needed.
Conclusion
This is a general strategy session, not an invitation to giving particular advice that will not work without fully customized assessment and visual instruction.
One thing I can suggest in general is to get proper shoes, since you got to buy something and are likely wasting your money now. I explained elsewhere what I recommend, you can find it.
I also recommend walking and running barefoot on grass or firm sand.

S Curve Posture can create pain just about anywhere like the hips, back, shoulders, neck, and headaches.
- Certain muscles have to work harder to keep the body upright to compensate for weaknesses somewhere else.
- Muscles become exhausted, tight and inflamed.
- Joints can have uneven pressure causing friction, wear and pain.
- Vertebrae of the spine are not stacked evenly and can pinch nerves leading to muscles—as chiropractors emphasize.
- The sacrum bone, near the tailbone, can also misalign to pinch the sciatica nerve. Hips are complex and hard to visualize.

I. Where The Pain Is
- Rub nutrients or nutrients on the area. No risk of making more painful and very helpful
- Physics of nutrition: far infrared lamps and cold can speed healing.
- Massage guns--all brands seem the same to me. Low risk and very helpful.
- Traction: like a neck sling (look it up) for a neck pain to give space between the vertabare, this is low risk and effective to treat the symptom and enable you to perform other interventions.
- Stretching: sometimes works, but also likely to antagonize the muscle
- Contracting or strengthening muscles: also likely to antagonize if muscles are overworked, but sometimes works.
