Leaky Capillaries Create Edema and High Blood Pressure
Edema is the accumulation of fluid in extracellular interstitial fluids due to leakiness of vessels and capillaries.
There are also cases of a blocked lymph system but I will put that aside for now.
Leakiness is based on:
1. Damage to the vessel / capillary barriers relative to
2. Level of blood pressure caused by:
• Leakiness that requires higher BP to compensate
• Water retention from sodium
• Other reasons for high BP: obstructions and low electrical charge in the capillaries.
Edema often starts in the ankles and spreads upward.
If it reaches the lungs there will be trouble breathing with a high blood pressure.
Blood pressure increases to keep blood flowing as leaking vessels has a blood pressure lowering effect that requires the heart to pump harder to keep blood moving.
This is a similar effect as dilation or enlargening of vessels.
Advanced edema is also usually characterized by more total liquid volume increase from sodium retention. This can be due to high salt in the diet or kidneys failing to excrete urine, kidney failure.
Higher liquid volume requires more pressure to move.
This is well recognized and responds readily to diuretic medications that work by removing sodium with resulting rapid loss of water weight.
What is rarely discussed is the leaky vessel and capillary aspect--how the plumping works.
The prevailing theory has been attributed as a protein problem involving albumin that supposedly maintains osmotic pressure across capillaries (Starling’s theory).
That never made sense to me and does not explain how vessels could be damaged and leaky.
Actually “leaky vessels” is considered a rare condition when the person swells up everywhere.
This protein problem was primarily attributed to nephritic syndrome or “leaky kidneys” of losing proteins. Or, it could be attributed to the liver not making enough albumin.
This is a real problem that can be measured in the urine as proteinuria, but it does not explain leaking capillaries.
It is now recognized that vessel integrity depends on the outer protective layer over the vessel lining or endothelium called the glycocalyx.
The glycocalyx is a complete substance with many proteins, lipids and sugars.
Some of highlights are sulfates from sulfur, cholesterol sulfate what I have written about elsewhere and proteins.
Other aspects of vessel structure include the basement layer of collagen.
Rather than trying to break this down under the microscope, I will look in the opposite direction to the root causes of weakness of vessels and kidneys in nutrient deficiencies and toxic load (that can be detoxified with nutrients)
Some deficiencies are lacking in the diet and some are from lack of probiotics for digestion and production through fermentation of prebiotic fibers and sugars.
Thiamine is an example of something that can be low in the diet for therapeutic needs and improves digestion like production of stomach acid with noticeable improvement.
Thiamine as a B vitamin can also be produced by gut bacteria.
The gut is responsible for most digestion and even production of many nutrients.
I see some new trends in gut improvement that I consider a new paradigm of gut improvement, that make it clearer that probiotics and prebiotics can work despite many years of failed attempts that many people have experienced.
The new paradigm targets a few key bacteria strains for each individual out of about a dozen key possibilities. These are good bacteria wiped out by antibiotics from the upper intestines. I identify my needs through energetic testing.
Also using foods with prebiotics like fruit and resistant starches that creates butyrate a short chain fatty acid that is a food the colon and multipurpose hormone in the body.
No one ever explained butyrate from resistant starches is detoxifying, and not just briefly, which does not mean I was feeling bad from it, it was energizing, just specific symptoms. Probably because I use it as part of a whole gut solution.
I knew it was working when I could eat more than ever and lose weight rapidly at the same time. This means I was digesting all my food for energy and getting rid of excess body weight and waste. No more fine-tuning for regularity. Of course, more energy.
For vessel, kidney and heart repair. I believe it takes a lot of protein. One thing I learned from carnivore testimonials, even though I am not that, is that large amounts of protein work to heal many things. Gut health enables eating more and producing more vitamins of many kinds and short chain fatty acids that have been shown to aid healing. That’s what I see as most promising to heal leaking vessels that contribute to higher blood pressure. It’s the whole protein metabolism
Leaky capillaries and vessels from the feet to the heart and head are a nutritional deficiency problem.
Toxicity that creates damage to vessels is a nutritional deficiency problem because nutrients are all you need to detoxify.
Detoxification can put a strain on the body and organs like the kidney because it was a detox that went too fast the impaired my ability to excrete sodium that lead to a journey through all this.
You can’t just define the problem as edema and just take diuretics like dandelion or Lasix.
All these organs need to be repaired addressing all nutrient deficiencies, some through specific identification, others through general upgrading of diet including probiotics.
The purpose of this post was to explain edema and blood pressure in cases of edema.
This is my theory there is no “more” from the “real” expert it came from.
The state of health science is quite poor in many areas.
Doctors admit they have no clue what causes are.
