Stress Hormones Steal Healthy Hormones
Talking About:
- Low Testosterone (in women, too)
- Adrenal fatigue (stress response goes on too long, draining energy)
- Cortisol steals Pregnenolone (pregnenolone steal)
- Low hormones: reproductive, growth, mood, sleep
- HPA axis dysregulation
- ANS autonomic nervous system dysregulation
- Hypothalamic / amygdala dysfunction
All these terms are related as one process with a few types of root causes.
Stealing refers to diverting hormones that are made from cholesterol and then pregnenolone:
Cortisol steals pregnenolone that would go toward reproductive hormones that have other functions, too.
Testosterone is involved in muscle strength and calm, assertive confidence.
Stress responses and hormonal regulation begin with the brain as the brain stem and mid brain glands determine the direction of hormones.
The type of stressor I want to address here are physical: toxins that are everywhere.
A few examples:
- Air pollution: mercury, aluminum, laundry scents, glyphosate weed killers blowing around the neighborhood.
- Light Pollution: LED lights, fluorescents, especially at night, especially in stores and car headlights make me feel frazzled.
- Electrical Radiation, EMF, from wireless, your phone, etc. are stimulating neurotoxins.
- Tap water on hands and bathing: fluoride, chlorine, through skin or breathed in shower.
- A life time accumulation from food, medicine, dentistry, that don’t disappear automatically even if you have been pursuing health for years.
All these toxins require more nutrients to detoxify, creating nutrient deficiencies that exhaust us, and make us feel tired and less able to deal with stress so more unsafe and stressed in a vicious cycle. Just being on a “good diet” does not necessarily mean that you can catch up on the deficiencies automatically. It takes years to detoxify fully, which is harder as we can barely keep up with the escalating exposures to new toxins.
Another way the steal happens is that cholesterol is stolen before it makes pregnenolone because it is an antioxidant is used to neutralize toxins to detoxify. That’s why it is healthy to eat more cholesterol in animal fat than you might think.
Before all detoxification can occur and without perfect avoidance of environment exposures it can be helpful to take to help regulate the brain at the symptom level that work wonders, but solutions vary by individual so I don’t want to get into details.
Hormonal balance in men can be monitored through testosterone levels that appear as morning wood. This seems to be why it’s named after the rooster’s crowing in the morning.
This is not related to sexual arousal: I don’t experience any dreams or feel such an urge when I am alone and stay focused on other things.
It’s like flexing a muscle and feels good and healthy, knowing what it means.
For men who feel the urge, many have learned the benefit of not ejaculating too frequently, even when having sex because it drains energy.
Semen is biologically expensive to make especially as men age.
I call it saving my jing, deep energy, which gives me an edge mentally and keeps me craving my woman intensely.
