Functional Insomnia:
Nutrition & Circulation Work Together
Functional Insomnia is when you lack nutrients & circulation
to do the work of sleep: detoxify and repair,
so you wake up or can't fall asleep.
Nutrition and movement to boost circulation both regulate the nervous system for sleep.
A third set of factors are external disruptions of electromagnetic fields, artificial light, bed problems, etc.
These are a separate issue for now and I will focus on nutrition and circulation.
Function differs from sleep mechanism, like taking supplements as sleeping pills, “take this for that.”
Sun exposure in the morning and throughout the day with low artificial light at night are part of a systemic understanding of sleep mechanism,
The first function involves enough nutrients to perform repair: deficiency is the problem.
(or excess: too much of the wrong foods, but still deficient in what is needed)
The second function is enough circulation to deliver nutrients after making room by removing waste out the lymph and spinal fluid into the blood, liver, intestines and out. This can be more important initially in conditions of excess and obesity.
An excess condition sometimes means eating less at least for awhile to let your body improve its circulation and elimination. Or not eating at night when excess at that time impairs sleep, when digestion is weak.
Deficiencies are not always obvious, like being very thin.
You might not feel hungry when you wake up too early because you are too acidic. That can mean an alkaline deficiency.
When deficient I sometimes wake up too early not feeling sleepy, I feel stimulated with a hunting and gathering drive first, and the hunger is not quite clear.
For me I sleep best with larger quantities of food in 4 meals, sun, and multiple kinds of movement including a walk.
When I only eat the nutrients I need I don’t gain weight but just increase energy.
The first and 3rd meals are big meat meal with small amounts of vegetables and maybe a little raw butter. This is consistent with leptin reset to balance hormone for weight loss or any reason.
The key to not having a downer after a big meal is to eat the right things. For me that means including red meat and liver or other organs that are highly stimulating and rebuilding.
Red meat also has detox minerals like zinc. “Cleansing” is not just fruit and vegetables.
I have a mix of meat for balance: red, fowl, fish, organs, not just one meat each meal for meal variety, that does not bring balance since these have different stimulating and relaxing properties, to mention one thing.
The lunch and bedtime meals are fruit, eggs, raw dairy, nuts. There is a lot of variety here. This is where I get my carbs which is almost completely from fruit, not cooked starches or vegetables.
I need enough protein to repair. I need enough carbs to walk, dance, and other activities for muscle strength, I never adapted to years of keto.
Sunlight is key for energy and overall balance to make everything work.
Circulation depends on movement.
Move to circulate, align and relax.
Circulation begins with manual do it yourself lymph massage, anyone can find that, don’t ask me here.
Then exercise works better. Lymph does not more from exercise alone when jammed
There are many ways to move lymph everyone has heard of, not going to repeat.
I emphasize spinal and cranial alignment to move cerebrospinal fluid. All is Do It Yourself:
- Cranial expansion
- Hip alignment that is more relaxing than anything, and improves circulation to the head
- Primal movements like walking, aligned sitting, etc.
I need cranial work to address the root cause of bottle feeding as a baby, instead of breast feeding that leads to cranial growth through hard sucking as the tongue pushes up on the palate/maxilla to expand the cranium. I have written about that under Alignment at my website anyone can find yourself a few clicks away. So not going to explain that here.
Cranial work increases circulation to help detoxify mercury, my major toxin that was identified on hair tests. It takes a long time to get every bit out especially with constrained circulation.
Aligning bones of the head and spine affects the nervous system through more circulation, which is rewarded with relaxation and even sleep.
This illustrates the point of functional insomnia: the body can’t rest fully until it gets all the nutrients in and toxins out.
The result of nutrition and circulation is nervous system regulation, really nearly the same thing as insomnia, one of its major symptoms.
Again, also assuming toxic exposures to electronic pollution are mitigated, but eventually EMF can addressed by fixing voltage gated calcium channels the way all problems are being addressed here. This is what “sensitivity” means: deficiencies of nutrition and movement. Not everyone exposed gets dysregulated, internal health matters.
If you are reading this as social media post:
No instructions or recommendation can be given in comments.
No personal advice: I can’t guess one thing at a time, you need systematic evaluation and planning.
This is about theory and strategy so you can stop doing what you are doing by identifying the underlying assumptions you have been using that lead to failure repeatedly, even when you think if you just got details different it could work.
