Some Nutrition Basics
1. PROTEIN
Meat: I recommend meat for many people, but there are unique ways to make vegetarianism work, too.
Weston A. Price. a dentist who almost one hundred years ago traveled the world to prove that vegetarians were healthier but found that all healthy traditional societies ate animal protein with extra animal fat added: meat, fish, or dairy--so not necessarily meat.
One vegetarian option with animal protein is with raw dairy and eggs.
One version of this is a “no kill” diet in which you do not even kill whole plants.
2. FAT
Generally people need more fat in their diets because it is a good source of stable energy and has many nutrients
If you think of avocados first when you think of good fats, then you have a lot to learn.
Cholesterol is contained in saturated animal fat and is good for you as it is necessary for the brain, nervous, hormones, skin and cell membranes. Saturated fat helps absorb toxins. The myth that cholesterol is dangerous has been widely refuted, again see the Weston A. Price Foundation for articles.
Vegetable Oils Polyunsaturated fats that are heated or spoiled and rancid are toxic and damaging to the body. Evidence for this is so great that Mayor Bloomberg in New York City outlawed their use for cooking in restaurants: corn, canola, etc.
Fish Oil is also a polyunsaturated oil that spoils easily. Fish oil pills are generally rancid and many people feel bad taking them. Fresh or frozen fish is a better source of the valuable fats EPA and DHA. What fish to use depends on local sources.
3. CARBS
Carbohydrates include anything that breaks down to sugar: grains, corn, beans, potatoes, fruits, vegetables and milk.
It’s often beneficial to eliminate the starchier cooked carbs but include fruits, vegetables and milk raw.
People often get large benefits when they eliminate grains and beans.
The lowest carb diet is the Ketosis diet with no more than 20-40 grams daily. This can be of great benefit if you test that you need it.
4. ALLERGIES & INTOLERANCE
Many foods present problems like pasteurized dairy and gluten containing grains like wheat.
Other foods have toxins in them like pesticides and herbicides like round-up. Both gluten and herbicides damage gut and brain linings, with gluten causing only around 10% of the damage.
The main reason for dairy allergy is pasteurization which is heating of the milk that makes it less digestible. The other reason is the form of casein protein in many cows, with goat milk not having that problem. Raw unheated dairy can be a great healing food.
Another reason for food intolerances is temporary based on a lack of cofactor nutrients needed to absorb nutrients. For example, sodium and potassium are necessary to regulate what gets in and out of cells. If you are lacking these you could be “allergic to everything.” Many allergies are reversible, if it is a healthy food.
5. MINERALS
It is better to get minerals from food instead of taking mineral supplements, although there are a few common exceptions.
Broad spectrum mineral supplements do not have enough of some minerals, especially sodium, potassium, magnesium, sulfur, iodine, so those would taken as stand alones.
I will test you for exactly how much you need.
6. RAW
Raw foods when possible are more nutritious because heat destroys many nutrients and all the enzymes which help digest the food when it is eaten.
Consuming dairy raw is essential because heat turns it from one of the most healing foods to perhaps the most allergenic.
Vegetable juicing is the fastest way to absorb nutrients, since it is raw and removing the fiber leads to faster uptake in much larger quantities than you can digest with the fiber.
7. SUPPLEMENTS
Most supplements do not help and even make you worse since the nutrients are often denatured, have toxins added, and isolated without co-factors in balanced amounts to be utilized properly. Most of you have a museum in your cupboards.
Determine what are the few very best supplements for you. It has taken me years to find the best, picking from many brands, not just using one brand of supplements.
8. PROBIOTICS
The best probiotic I have found is Megaspore.
I also recommend feeding good bacteria with prebiotics like potato starch or raw potato without the skin, which will make you dream more. So you think the brain and gut are not connected?
