Lymph Diagnosis & Assessment
Medical Diagnosis
The medical paradigm identifies gross pathology or obvious things:
Not captured in these diagnosis are the less obvious stagnation in the tissues that may be so bad that toxins don’t even make it to the lymph nodes, so lymph nodes might appear normal.
Holistic Assessment
Lymph weakness can create chronic problems for other organs where more noticeable symptoms show up:
Since the lymph works with the blood as total circulation of fluids, cardiovascular problems may be more related to lymph than we think. Cardio problems are more acute and noticeable; stroke, heart attack, palpitations, blood pressure, but those are symptoms of a wider problem.
The blood and heart are charismatic organs that make good metaphors, but the lymph is slow, amorphous and swampy in comparison—it does not inspire. And yet lymph is the swamp that must be drained to remove what is breeding in it.
Complications of long term stagnant lymph can include tissue death that may form scar like tissue that needs to removed with protease enzyme normally provided by the pancreas to help thin the blood and lymph, but this is little discussed. I’m not recommending any products here.
Diet Explanations
A major question is how the gut and lymph relate, and the implications of sending fat to lymph for digestion.
A theory is that undigested fats combined with leaky gut clog the lymph.
This would effect the transit from the intestines to the central channels up to behind the collar bone. Then the whole system could back up from there, but I don't know if that can explain lymph stagnation all over the body.
I did not find research evidence of clogging but this is logical and plausible. Transfats from heated vegetable oils are known to be the worst for health. Utilizable fats in the lymph are not helping and all tissues can starve with nutritional deficiencies, including the lymph system. Common problems of fat digestion and gut health need to be addressed anyway.
One theory is that fat is bad for your body and all you need to eat is fruit because the lymph is key to everything.
Another theory by Dr Berg is the lymph problems are result of insulin regulation and metabolic syndrome type problems that can be solved with a keto diet.
I think reducing it to being explained to one's favorite diet is limited. I think it's part of the break down of everything as a root symptom where many root causes make an impact to result in low energy and less movement to pump the lymph.
The medical paradigm identifies gross pathology or obvious things:
- Lymph node tenderness and swelling. This is the immune system not being able to keep up with the toxic and pathogenic load moving through the lymph. Nodes to provide a great way for people to check themselves to see if they are sore.
- Edema: is swelling of parts of the body, arms, legs, or even belly, with water that is not moving out of the interstitial fluid the through the lymph.
- Cancer: lymphoma.
- pain in muscles and joints that don’t heal
- skin eruptions.
- low energy
- brain fog
- liver detox that goes on forever
- gut problems as the lymph is a part of the immune system that works mostly at the gut.
