Scientific Method
For Personal Health Improvement
Under quality improvement action to improve health is seen as an experiment with well defined goals that can be measured and implemented with feedback for quality assurance to guide improvement in continuous cycles.
Total quality named the steps as Plan, Do, Study, Act, PDSA.
Six Sigma’s process is: Define, Measure, Analyze, Implement, Control, DMAIC.
These are essentially the same things packaged differently. Plan includes define, measure, analyze, sometimes in different terms. It is also important to think with this logic generally even when circumstances warrant a less formal approach.
This outline follows the Plan Do Check Act PDCA format.
PLAN
Define the Problem
A client may request help with “adrenal fatigue.” This conflates a symptom and a theory of a cause.
Fatigue is the symptom. Adrenal gland weakness is a theory of the cause.
Fatigue is a useful definition of the problem to use that leads to the measurable goal of “increased energy.” This is a useful outcome to monitor even though it is subjective it can be used constantly and reflects an overall state of health.
Adrenals gland hormone output has to be measured with lab tests. This is not worth tracking because it is a symptom as explained before. Individuals must learn why adrenals are controlled by other hormones and the brain, which is responding to stresses that are the 6 root causes. This is often necessary to shift focus, otherwise they will likely return to this obsession and stop implementing.
Getting people to let go of their self-diagnoses based on symptoms is a major challenge because they don’t take the time to study the paradigm shift. People are not shopping for a paradigm shift, they are shopping for a result, or what they think an answer looks like. They are not aware of the dimensions of the problem and are rarely interested. They want to quickly sample things and stick with what works easily, not make sure they got it right with exactly parameters to assure quality. Thus, a definition of the problem is also of the mistakes of the mind and how it points people away from a solution.
On the positive side, people typically present symptoms that can easily be translated into measurable goals, what is here called “control metrics,” taken from the terminology of quality control.
Gather the Data
Data for treatment planning will be focused on root causes. You don’t need to relate causes to each symptom. You should when you can but sometimes you can’t. The cost of testing could exceed the cost of treatment. There various ways to assess root causes:
List of Symptoms
Lab Tests
Tests for heavy metals include hair, urine and blood.
Infection tests of feces and blood.
Nutritional deficiency tests of hair or blood cells, no serum blood tests.
Lab tests especially for heavy metals are often a good place to start if someone does not know why they are chronically ill. Then they have something more objective and certain to work with. Many clients already have these and are looking for better solutions. They are also looking for clarity on the relationship between different causes, relative importance, or priority of treatment, but labs tests cannot determine that.
Energetic Testing
This is less understood scientifically so not everyone is open to this.
This includes in-person muscle testing and scanning with electronic machines.
It also includes dowsing with a pendulum, an ancient art. Pendulum testing can be done long distance for someone anywhere in the world, even if they are not present on a video call.
Questions can be asked to identify causes and solutions.
This works through the idea that the body has an energy field of electricity, chi, etc. If you hold a food, supplement, or toxin in your hand, even in a container, your energy field senses it and feels either weaker or stronger immediately. This is reflected in the strength of muscles tested.
You can also learn to experience energy by holding something in your hand and feel the difference positive or negative for you. Don’t try too hard. I was able to guide myself through this method first and discover the best products and foods.
Energetic testing works long distance with the subconscious intelligence of the practitioners communicating with the other person’s energy field and subconscious intelligence. The answer shows up in the movement of a pendulum that says yes or no. Attempts are made to explain this through quantum physics. I can confirm that this works even if we don’t know fully why.
Quality control over the process of energetic testing is a big issue, Much can go wrong and often does. There are many ways to assure quality of the process that I cannot detail here.
The advantage of energetic testing is that a far wider range of questions can be answered, especially which solutions will work, which lab tests cannot do. The most important thing for each method is what questions you ask. The main focus should be on solutions since root cause solutions can address multiple symptoms.
Energetic testing can also create more operationally detailed and quantifiable treatment solutions than lab tests.
The Plan: Operational Knowledge in an Individual Health Programs
How specifically each thing is done can make or break success. People are often say they tried something and “it” didn’t work. But there is more than “it” since "it" is all about context and the total system of:
This is the more details with nutrition. Nutrition programs include:
A written report of testing results for a client or yourself is a plan and starting point of a program.
The next steps are to implement and monitor implementation and results continually.
DO: IMPLEMENT YOUR PROGRAM
Implementation Support: Asking for Help
Clients are typically overwhelmed by the amount of changes they need to make.
They need help understanding instructions and finding things.
They need reinforcement about the reasons why each thing matters or they are less likely to do it.
They will initiate many questions first.
Many will chose not to do certain things and not discuss it because they treat it like a buffet menu and shopping experience. They forego the commitment to be coached and implement 100%. Over time they must be checked to see how they are implementing because they don’t always know if they are doing it right. That is the next step.
QUALITY ASSURANCE MONITORING
This is the Study, Check, Inspect, step in the improvement cycle.
This is the feedback point to clarify or improve implementation or improve the program itself.
Control Metrics
Individuals and clients monitor themselves daily with subjective perception of their symptoms, such as, energy increasing. These can be rated or seen as “go, no go” indicators of whether to continue to eat something if it makes them feel better.
Implementation Review takes the form of meetings to review the program.
Client initiated meetings are always encouraged when discomfort is experienced with the flaring of symptoms. Being available on short notice for short meeting serves the client better. If they are feeling bad symptoms must be heard and interpreted or tested energetically for a correction.
Monitoring remotely with energetic testing asking which clients need attention and for what root cause.
I focus most on nutritional deficiencies since the body is only as strong as its weakest link. This is called “the law of the minimum” in agriculture and was established 200 years ago..
Deficiency testing can detect a lack of compliance or a changing need. After some deficiencies are corrected and energy expenditure increase, other nutrients that are not supported as much may become low relative to the others. This is not automatic, since there are many broad spectrum food used that increase all nutrients that are not targeted. Broad spectrum foods provide more cofactors to assimilate all nutrients.
A client was surprised when I said he had a phosphorous deficiency and he needed to eat more beef. He then said he had stopped eating beef as was recommended. This has happened numerous times with different clients.
Just In Time Feedback and Correction
Self monitoring by the client and monitoring by the practitioner would ideally catch problems immediately as is done in factory with automatic inspection by machines with lights and alarms that indicate the need for immediate correction before defects accumulate. The equivalent for health if the technology existed would be to strap a blood monitor on the client with an alarm beeper when anything needed improvement, sending a signal to the client’s computer and the practitioner’s computer with info on the problem and possibly courses of correction to be done by the client or practitioner.
Although that technology does not exist, the practitioner can be available on short notice for short meetings to catch each problem soon to prevent further symptoms. Remote monitoring can be done frequently on regular basis like once or twice a week is based on energetic testing to see what that person needs. It is best done frequently and in as small amount as needed rather than waiting for a monthly review meeting for an hour.
This is like the just in time concept of production flows and delivery to customers of a product or servive. Early detection of problems limits snowballing into complications and quitting the program.
ACT means to implement new solutions to repeat the cycle.

- Source of a nutrient, for example: food, supplement
- Quality of particular products
- Dose: enough or too much
- Time of day
- With/out food
- Combination of things that work together
- Preparation: in the right stage and right things done before this
- Test or guess?
- Adjust variables over time with feedback
This is the more details with nutrition. Nutrition programs include:
- Nutritional deficiencies in order of importance and solutions
- The physics of nutrition like sunlight.

- Food allegories and intolerances.
- What kind of diet you should be on customized for you.
- Meal timing.
- Which of your existing foods or supplements test as good or bad for you.
