The Immune System and Artemisia
The Immune system is still not fully understood and many people act like they don’t have one.
The immune system is not just for colds and infections but is for throwing out anything that does not belong:
White blood cells are made in the bone marrow, activated in the thymus, recycled in the spleen, act at the lymph nodes and lymphoid tissues.
Something that seems to activate the immune systems is sweet wormwood or artemisia annua. Most of this is sold as an extract, artemisinin.
This is actually a malaria treatment of choice in Asia.
It has thousands of years of use in Chinese medicine against such infections.
A Chinese woman got a noble prize for proving it works against malaria, although we still don’t know for sure that it works.
There are hypothosized mechanisms of how it kills malaria.
They assume it must kill malaria directly because it is a medicine, after all.
We generally assume it kills infections because it is in the most famous parasite formula: wormwood, clove and black walnut.
We generally think in direct terms of “take this for that” but there may also be an intermediary immune boosting function, or in some cases, just an immune mechanism.
I don’t think people, including scientists, always know or research it enough.
Other research shows it regulates the immune system.
I’m not going to try to summarize research, it’s too vast.
My own experimentation in high amounts is that it brought on tired and flu like aches, which indicate immune activity and the parasympathetic dominance of the nervous system.
For me, it seems to shift me out of work and stress mode into slowing down and letting my body detox, etc, Thus, immunity starts with brain and nervous system regulation.
Some people take Artemisia for weight loss.
That’s not a commonly understood function of the immune system, but indicates the broad scope of actions of Artemisia, which, therefore, seems like an immune booster.
A strategy for boosting the immune system should also include mitochondrial strategy for every cell in the body, including white blood cells. This depends on all basic minerals, vitamins, and sunlight.
Also, to handle detox and die-off, the liver and bile flow can benefit from support from extra antioxidants to neutralized toxins in the liver so the bile can continue to flow and not create painful gallbladder conditions, constipation, diarrhea, insomnia, pain and inflammation, circulatory problems, etc.
Thus, a systematic strategy is most effective and can be highly individual.
The immune system is not just for colds and infections but is for throwing out anything that does not belong:
- Infections of all kinds bacteria, parasites, etc.
- Toxins of all kinds.
- Cancer cells.
- Fat cells.
- Perhaps scenescent or underperforming cells.
